Question:
I'm in a terrible jam and looking for suggestions. Please no jokes or snide remarks.?

I am an American man (57 years old) and have been living in Thailand for the past 7years. Over the past year, I have had a string of catastrophes happen. I was in a bad accident in a taxi that I was a passenger ... fractured skull, cuts, three bones broken in one arm and a mangled wrist that required surgery. I had a fairly successful business operating at the time. The taxi company "disappeared" (this is Thailand) and I got stuck with all of my medical bills. During the recent public unrest here my business partner embezzled all of my money while I was in the hospital and he disappeared. I went bust just paying my hospital bills. I am now at the point where I am flat broke.

There really is no option for me other than to request that the American Embassy repatriate me to USA. I have already spoken with them and they have agreed to do that. They will pay for my plane ticket back to somewhere in USA that makes sense. I will have a debt to The US State Department for any costs that they incur by helping me. I have no complaint or problem with that. I am grateful that they can help me.

Here's the problem ... I have been in Asia for the past 15 years and have no family or friends anymore in America. I am flat broke. How do I get started again? Where do I go with no money and no support system? BTW, I am not a drug addict or vagabond ... posses an M.B.A. from a good US university (32 years ago), lot’s of varied experience (but not in USA for 15 years), no criminal record and have always been a diligent working man all of my life. I have never in my life been depressed ... clinically depressed before. But, I am now. There is a world of worry hanging over me. It’s dreadful.

I don't know where in the states to go. The USA economy is dismal. How am I going to find a job and where am I going to live? I have never been homeless before and wouldn't even know where or how to live on the streets. I’ve got to be out of here within the next week. It doesn’t make sense to start applying for jobs right now. I can’t interview and I don’t know where I’ll be in a week. I need to find a place in the states to live, hang my hat and start from there. My priority is to decide where to head to in order to get a new beginning.

I am open to all sensible suggestions or ideas. Please no jokes, nastiness or the like. I am telling you this honestly and can't handle snide remarks. Please be specific with a city to go to and recommended plan of action. I am totally lost and I must do something within the next 7 days. I’m not asking anyone for money or trying to pull an internet con job.

Thanks.

The trick now would be to put worrisome thoughts out of your head, they will only sabotage you. You are starting over.

With an education it will be easier to get a job (ideally) but for now you need to find a place to stay.

http://www.couchsurfing.org/about.html

Using this site you can find someone who will be willing to help you.

Now before you go pursuing a fulfilling career and making your way, you'll probably need to be at a dead end job to save up some cash while you're surfing couches so you can afford a cheap apartment. (This way you can save up money while looking for better jobs)

As for finding a job:

http://www.usajobs.gov/

Look for anything relatively simple to apply for. Then use couchsurfing.com wherever this job is!. hopefully you'll have people willing to house you for a few days while you get back on your feet. Best of luck!

Another choice perhaps staying in Thailand, and getting a task; above or beneath the counter to begin. As you already know, you'll get a room for 3000 baht or so, or percentage. And subsist on 6000 if you happen to quite needed to, peculiarly when you have any Thai or farang peers within the nation. I consider the various main towns have ex-pat golf equipment, as good, and anybody there perhaps capable to support you. I KNOW they have got an expat community in Pattaya and I'm certain BKK additionally has one. Otherwise, if you happen to return to the States, have been you ever a member of a church there? If so, touch them, they usually perhaps capable to support you, and deliver you extra attention than simply displaying up at their entrance door, or a safe haven.
